If you can't write a story on paper, how do you expect to make it on film? Portland-based author Jon Raymond's first novel brought his work to the attention of Kelly Reichardt and together they made four movies, including MEEK'S CUTOFF and NIGHT MOVES. Joining Raymond to discuss how a story becomes a movie, we have Bend Film Festival best screenplay winner Steve Doughton (BUOY), Jon Garcia (THE FALLS), Brian Padian (the black sea), and Darcy Miller (A HUNDRED EIGHTY DEGREES).

Steven Doughton is a writer and director from Portland, Oregon. He studied drawing and painting in college and in 1983, moved to New York's East Village where he soon began making short films. In 1986 Doughton and artist David Wojnarowicz collaborated on the short film Around Clown. Jon Raymond

Jon Raymond is an American writer living in Portland, Oregon. His books include The Half-Life, Livability, and Rain Dragon. He wrote the short stories and screenplays for the films Old Joy and Wendy and Lucy (both directed by Kelly Reichardt). He also wrote the screenplays for Meek's Cutoff and Night Moves, and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his teleplay writing on the HBO miniseries, Mildred Pierce.
